Finite-Size Facility Placement in the Presence of Barriers to Rectilinear Travel
نویسندگان
چکیده
We consider the placement (location and orientation) of a single nite-size ( nite-area, arbitrary shape) facility in the plane under the assumption that all travel occurs according to the rectilinear (or Manhattan) metric in the presence of impenetrable barriers to travel. Facility users are distributed over a nite set of demand points. The facility serves the users via a service point (server) located on the boundary of the facility. We consider an interactive model in the sense that there is interaction between not only the facility and the users, but also among the users themselves. We identify the candidates for optimal placement(s) for a facility with a xed orientation and then for a facility with a xed server location. Finally, we present a heuristic for the solution of the general problem, when the location and orientation are both unknown.

In this paper, we consider the integration of facility placement in an existing layout and the configuration of one or two connecting sub-aisles. This is relevant, for example, when placing a new machine/department ...
متن کاملContour line construction for a new rectangular facility in an existing layout with rectangular departments
In a recent paper, Savas, Batta and Nagi [14] consider the optimal placement of a finite-sized facility in the presence of arbitrarily-shaped barriers under rectilinear travel. Their model applies to a layout context, since barriers can be thought to be existing departments and the finite-sized facility can be viewed as the new department to be placed. In a layout situation, the existing and ne...
متن کاملDominance rules for the optimal placement of a finite-size facility in an existing layout
In this paper, we consider the problem of optimal placement of a single finite-size, rectangular facility in presence of other rectangular facilities. There is a non-negative interaction between the new and existing facilities as well as pairs of existing facilities. All interactions are serviced through a finite number of input/output points located on the boundary of each facility. We assume ...
متن کاملPlacing a finite size facility with a center objective on a rectangular plane with barriers
This paper addresses the finite size 1-center placement problem on a rectangular plane in the presence of barriers. Barriers are regions in which both facility location and travel through are prohibited. The feasible region for facility placement is subdivided into cells along the lines of Larson and Sadiq (1983). To overcome complications induced by the center (minimax) objective, we analyze t...
متن کاملA Multi-Period 1-Center Location Problem in the Presence of a Probabilistic Line Barrier
This paper investigates a multi-period rectilinear distance 1-center location problem considering a line-shaped barrier, in which the starting point of the barrier follows the uniform distribution function. In addition, the existing points are sensitive to demands and locations. The purpose of the presented model is to minimize the maximum barrier distance from the new facility to the existing ...
